Brian Jonestown Massacre Bringing It All Back Home Again
With perhaps the coolest cover art yet, this new one by BJM is only
a teaser - only six songs. True to form, the production is of dubious
quality and, while the band's talent has appeared to progress from their
early days of three chord songs, off key singing, and out of synch rhythms,
it seems that perhaps some of the early day's spunk may be missing on
this disc.
Most of the songs follow the traditional BJM formula - drone rock fueled
by three guitars over a light bass, perhaps some keyboards or a sitar,
and Joel's ever-present tambourine. In addition, part-timer Miranda
Lee Richards lends her beautiful voice for the slow, thoughtful Reign
On while Anton digs up the ole Charlie Manson recordings to cover Arkansas
Revisted. All told, here's the deal with this disc. Are you already
a BJM fan? Well get this disc. It will add to the amount of BJM you
have available as you drive through the big wide west. A newbie
to BJM? Start out with Give
It Back!, perhaps the best BJM disc, and take it from there.
